25 July 2011
Riders for Health raised nearly $40,000 at our annual Day of Stars fundraiser. Day of Stars was held on Thursday, July 21st, at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. This unique day-long event, hosted by grand prix legend and co-founder of Riders for Health, Randy Mamola, began with a motorcycle tour of Carmel Valley. Once the riders returned to the Mazda Raceway, they enjoyed a catered lunch and conversations with special guests Wayne Rainey and Kenny Roberts. Other highlights of the day included a pit and paddock tour led by Mamola where participants met and shook hands with Marco Simoncelli and Hiroshi Aoyama, watched Casey Stoner´s bike being warmed up, and had their photos taken with Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi. The unforgettable day continued with parade laps, led by Mamola, on the famous Mazda Raceway circuit.

The 2011 Day of Stars concluded with a live auction of MotoGP memorabilia. The auction was open to the public and free of admission. Many MotoGP riders were on hand at the auction to autograph these unique items. Auction items included leathers worn by Kenny Roberts and of Wayne Rainey, a Tissot watch signed by riders, a helmet signed by Rossi, and a Suzuki Paddock Experience with a garage tour and opportunity to meet the team. All the proceeds from the auction support our work in Africa.
Special thanks go to DORNA, MotoGP, MazdaRaceway, Robert Talbott winery, past and present MotoGP riders who attended and all the volunteers who made the event a success. Support from the motorcycle community in the USA helps Riders for Health to save lives. In 2010, supporters at motorcycling events across the world raised hundreds-of-thousands of dollars for Riders helping them to provide access to health care for millions for people in Africa.
